OHV Leadership Event

The OHV Team at Arizona State Parks and Trails, the AZ Off-highway Vehicle Advisory Group, and the AZ OHV Ambassadorohv_logos are hosting the first annual OHV Club Leadership event to be held on Saturday, March 4th 2017 at the Boulders OHV Area Northwest of Phoenix.

Our primary goals for this event are to bring together the leadership from the various OHV clubs from around the state to promote working relationships between clubs and the various land management agencies and to share information about the various OHV activities from around the state.  Attendees at the event will have the opportunity to meet/socialize and share information with other club leaders, personnel from various land management and law enforcement agencies, get information about the various grant programs available for OHV clubs, and take a ride around one of the premier OHV areas in the state.

Who is Invited?

OHV Club Leadership teams.  While this event is open to all OHV clubs from around the state, we would like to ask that you limit the attendance from your club to 2 or 3 officers.  We would like this to be an intimate social gathering that allows the various clubs to interact with each other.  Attendees are welcome to bring spouses/significant others to this event.

Are you part of an organized Arizona based OHV Club or Riding Group that did not receive an invitation?  Please contact us ASAP via email at cgammage@blm.gov so we can contact you to get more information about your organization.

Location Details

Boulders OHV Area –  Located on State Route 74 (aka Carefree Highway) West from I-17 past Lake Pleasant to milepost 11.5.  Turn North onto well graded dirt road for approximately 1 mile.  The Boulders OHV Area is a truly unique area that was recently nominated by NOHVCC as one of the top 5 OHV riding areas in the US.  This signature OHV area offers opportunities for all vehicles types including 4x4s, Single Track, and ATV/UTV.

Accommodations

Attendees are responsible for making their own lodging accommodations for attending the event.  There is plenty of room for camping in RVs and tents at the Boulders.  The OHV Team will have an area at the Boulders reserved for event attendees starting on Friday March 3rd.  If you are planning to camp, we suggest arriving on Thursday March 2nd or Friday March 3rd.  Note:  there are no utilities, water/sewer hookups, or showers at the Boulders but there is a vault toilet.  Let us know in your RSVP if you plan to camp and what type of RV you have as it will help us plan accordingly.

If you prefer to stay in a hotel for the nights around the event, we recommend staying in the I-17 and Happy Valley Road area of North Phoenix.  There are several hotels in this area with plenty of parking for trucks/trailers.  The I-17 and Happy Valley area is about a 30-40 minute drive from the Boulders OHV Area.  Additional options which are about the same distance away are Wickenburg, AZ and Anthem, AZ.  If you have questions or need help with hotels in the area let us know in your RSVP and we will reach out to you.

Pre-event

For those interested the OHV Ambassadors will host a campfire social on the evening of Friday March 3rd preceding the event.  Bring your camp chairs, something to BBQ (we will have a grill setup), and enjoy an evening under the stars socializing with OHV users from around the state.  Let us know in your RSVP if you plan to attend the pre-event.

What do I need to Bring?

Bring your OHV to the event.  We will be using our very popular Show Me Ride event format for bringing clubs together.  We will have ride leaders who will be leading rides for 4x4s, Single Track, and ATV/UTV at the event.  The rides will focus on demonstrating the Show Me Ride format, highlight OHV grant project ideas, and facilitate interactions between clubs.

Besides your OHV, bring your camp chairs, sunscreen, hats, water/drinks, and other essentials for a day in the sun.  The OHV Ambassadors will be preparing a pancake/bacon breakfast provided by Connected Horizons on the day of the event.  Attendees should bring something for lunch on Saturday as lunch will be out on the trail.  Those camping Saturday night might also want to bring something to grill for dinner as the OHV ambassadors will have a grill and campfire.
